Burlap is a type of fabric made from the skin of a jute plant. Natural jute has a yellow to brown or gray color, with a silky luster. It also has a rough textural hand and an extremely crisp drape. Jute is difficult to bleach completely and reacts to chemicals in the same way as do cotton and flax fibers. It is widely used in the manufacture of linoleum and carpets as a backing or base fabric. It could also be used for accessories, hats, bags and of course interior spaces.
